Download enhancements
Beyond Chromium’s built-in downloads, Turbo adds parallel acceleration, handoff to external download managers, confirm-download dialogs, downloads-page management, and one-click image saving. Configure under Settings → Downloads (or open chrome://settings/downloads); open the downloads page at chrome://downloads.
Parallel download acceleration
Open Settings → Downloads and confirm Enable parallel download acceleration (on by default).
- Speeds up large-file downloads
- If a site misbehaves (failed downloads, checksum issues), turn it off temporarily and retry
Download tool (Xunlei / IDM)
On the same settings page, choose who handles downloads:

If the selected app is missing, downloads fall back to the browser with a toast so tasks do not fail silently. On Windows, IDM is detected from its actual install path, including other drives and custom folders. Launching third-party download tools is improved.
Confirm download (in-browser dialog)
With Settings → Downloads → Ask where to save each file before downloading on, downloads open an in-browser Confirm download dialog instead of the system Save As:
- Edit the file name and save location; the Download to path can be typed directly (absolute path and existing folder are validated)
- Pick a recent folder, or Browse for another
- Download and open: secondary button — save to the chosen folder and open when finished; New download can also open after completion
- Open only (temporary): when checked, the secondary button saves to a temp folder and opens automatically; cleaned up periodically; the checkbox state is remembered; also appears on the downloads page
- One-click Xunlei / IDM from the dialog (unavailable if not installed)
- Copy download link beside the URL (disabled for empty or invalid links)
- Non-modal: does not block page interaction — confirm while browsing
- Name conflicts: if you rename to an existing file, ask whether to overwrite; if you keep the suggested name, uniquify with a number
- Block illegal / reserved names per platform so saves do not fail silently
- Monitor clipboard (off by default) — under Settings → Downloads, copying a download link opens the confirm-download dialog
- New download autofills the clipboard link when one is available
Downloads page
Open the downloads page (chrome://downloads, or Menu → Downloads):
- Filter by type in the left sidebar: All files, PDF, Documents, Applications, Images, Archives, Videos, Audio, Others
- Delete file: remove the file on disk and the download record
- In-progress items — pause / resume / cancel quick buttons
- Completed items — show file size; hover to delete
- Failed / interrupted items — quick retry
The toolbar Downloads button popup:
- Success badge — successful downloads accumulate a badge count (cap 99+)
- Unviewed style — the list distinguishes unviewed downloads
- New download — can create a new download
- Clear all — moved to the bubble’s outer toolbar; after clearing all, the empty panel stays so you can still create new downloads
- Full downloads page / Download settings — remain in the bubble ⋮ menu
- Right-click the Downloads button — opens the downloads page directly
- Ready to search on open — keyboard focus lands in the panel when the bubble opens, so you do not need to click first
- Show downloads when done — when enabled in Settings, the bubble opens automatically on completion (no stacked layer if the WebUI bubble is already open)
- Play sound when a download completes — toggle under Settings → Downloads (off by default; preview available; louder than before)
The full downloads page (Ctrl+J) toolbar also has New download, sharing the confirm-download flow with the downloads bubble.
The completed-download bubble quick action is also Delete file (remove disk file and the history entry); clicking the row still opens the file. Hover a row to copy the download URL on the left (also for failed, interrupted, and canceled items).
Alt + left-click quick-save images
Hold Alt (macOS: Option) and left-click an image on the page to save it to a chosen folder.
- Toggle and set the save location under Settings → Downloads
- Separately control: Show in download list (off by default), Show toast (on by default), and thumbnail fly-in animation when the toast is on (on by default; turning off the toast also skips the animation)
- Continuous saves show a clearer Toast, and same-name files are not overwritten
- Guide tip: A light tip appears when hovering an image (~5s auto-hide; up to 3 times; no longer shown after a successful save)
- When enabled, Alt + right-click an image opens the system Save As dialog to rename or pick another folder
